Funding for Schools

Clean School Buses. Financial incentives are a major part of the California Air Resources Board's (CARB) efforts to ensure clean school buses are operating at our schools and in our neighborhoods. These incentives can also help to drive the development of newer and cleaner technologies by speeding up their adoption by school bus fleet owners. Funding programs are either provided to local air districts to administer or through direct, state-run programs.

US Green Building Council CA (USBGC-CA). Each year, the USGBC California Green Schools Committee invites applications for micro-grants to support green school projects during the school year.

US DOE Grants for Energy Improvements at Public Schools FacilitiesThe U.S. Department of Energy recently announced first-of-its-kind investments to make clean energy improvements at K-12 public schools. Funds will position school districts to make upgrades that will lower facilities’ energy costs and foster healthier learning environments for students. 

 

US DOE Energy Class Prize.  The Energy CLASS (Champions Leading the Advancement of Sustainable Schools) Prize supports local education agencies, helping establish and train energy managers to identify, plan, and implement efficiency and health upgrades in schools.

National Energy Management Institute (NEMI). NEMI Public Schools Facilities Upgrades Financing and Incentives, a summary of Federal funding and tax exemptions currently available for planning and implementation of public school facilities upgrades. These include support for renewable energy and energy efficiency, clean energy vehicles, pollution reduction and improved indoor environmental quality and risk mitigation techniques and technologies for limiting the spread of pathogens.
